FZR 600 SPECIFICATIONS
Considered by many to be one of the best sport/performance values in the 600cc class of its time, the Yamaha FZR600, introduced in 1989, still holds its own today carving up the twisties with the best of them.
At the heart of the FZR is a Genesis inspired 599cc, liquid cooled, 16-valve engine, breathing through four 32mm Mikuni CV carburetors. Its six-speed transmission is a bit clunky, prefering to be shifted at higher rpms with authoritative, firm toe action. The 38mm telescopic front fork is a wee squishy and benefits greatly from a set of stiffer springs and RaceTech cartridge valve emulators. Its powerful set of dual front 4-piston calipers and single rear disc brakes offer exceptional stopping power.
Yamaha's race-developed Deltabox frame and rear swingarm design, provides increased chassis rigidity and improved weight distribution, giving the FZR exceptional steering and handling characteristics. All combined with a very comfortable riding position (opinions may vary :), makes the FZR an excellent day-long, canyon carving partner.
